When Carly saw a Facebook post about three dogs being abandoned outside a church in Florida, she decided she was interfering with their fate. A woman from childhood adored animals and tried to help them. This time, she also could not pass by and decided to take the dogs off the street, especially since Carly collaborates with a local shelter as a volunteer. What happened next, she did not expect.
Arriving at the church, Carly saw two dogs – Zeus and Lily. They immediately ran up to her, delighted with the guest. But the third dog categorically refused to approach the volunteer and tried to hide.
The woman called him Chance and decided that she would definitely win his trust. That is why, sending Zeus and Lily to overexposure, Carly began to look for the runaway dog.
She popped into McDonald’s that day and bought a cheeseburger to get the dog’s attention. The dog immediately ran away when he saw the woman, and the attempt failed.
The next day, Carly brought Lily to show Chance that he has nothing to be afraid of, and if his four-legged friend trusts a woman, then he can safely trust. Alas, this did not work either – the dog did not approach Carly a single step, but only watched the dog and the guest from afar. And yet the woman did not give up. She felt that she could handle it, and on the eighth day the situation finally changed …
As Carly pulled up to the church, the dog suddenly ran up to the car. The woman put her hand out of the car and Chance suddenly licked it! It was an amazing show of trust and the volunteer almost burst into tears! She realized that she was one step away from success. On that day, Carly approached the dog, and she did not run away. The woman stroked the dog, and he happily wagged his tail.
“I was very nervous!” the volunteer admits. “I thought, what if he bites me. How will he even react?” But Chance didn’t bite her, and he looked almost relaxed! It was clear that he could be taken, and the woman carried him to the car. The poor dog was covered in fleas and clearly malnourished. His body was bony, so Carly decided to keep him to help her recover.
“He’s still afraid of people!” – the woman admits, but assures that they will cope with this. As soon as the dog learns to trust people, they will start looking for good owners!
