It was a windy May day when Susan Simon stepped out onto the covered porch. The girl immediately noticed a small but bright pink dot on it!
It turns out that the finches have chosen Susan’s house and began to build their nests there. And this year they built a house for themselves right in the wreath that hung on the lamp. But this place was not very safe, so the wind soon damaged the nest …
One baby chick miraculously survived the fall. The girl carefully picked up the still fledgling baby and returned it to the nest, and she herself went on business. When Susan returned, the poor man was again lying on the ground, and again he was lucky not to break himself in the fall.
Then the girl took the bird into the house and began to search the Internet for information on how to feed the chick. She put him in a small plastic container filled with paper napkins, and did not forget about a warm heating pad. Then she fed the still blind baby using a toothpick.
At first, the baby did not want to open his mouth, because he was very cold and life was barely glimmering in his tiny body. But the stubborn girl still forced him to take some food, and then her whole family began to feed the baby every fifteen minutes for the first two weeks!
It was not easy and Susan did not even believe that she could save the finch’s life, but she succeeded.
A week later, the finch opened its eyes and tiny feathers began to appear on it. The chick looked a bit like a tiny dinosaur.
Then the girl transferred her ward, whom she named Twerp, to a cage with food and utensils. When his feathers grew fully, she began to take him out onto the porch so that the bird could get used to the sounds and smells of nature.
Twerp ended up flying around the yard, but always returned home to Susan. Soon he was spending most of his time outside, but as soon as the girl went outside, he flew towards her, chirping merrily and demanding food. To help Twerp learn to eat on his own, Susan set up bird feeders in the yard. Less than an hour later, all the neighboring finches flocked there, who clearly demonstrated to the baby how to eat.
Soon the baby stopped coming back … This moment became both sad and happy for the girl. She became attached to the finch, but was glad that he was back where he was supposed to be!
