Victoria was walking outside her house when she discovered an unusually large hole. When she approached, a large hare jumped out of the hole. The woman knew that a hare had escaped from a farm in their area, so she decided that she had met exactly the animal that the farmer was looking for in vain.
The woman began to bring food to the hare every day, and he turned out to be very sociable and every time he went out to meet the woman, as soon as she approached. It was noticeable that the hare liked to live in a hole, so Victoria did not inform the farmer about him.
When it became cold outside, Victoria, as always, went to feed the hare, but there was a dog near his dwelling. Victoria thought the dog had harmed her new friend. Suddenly, a hare himself appeared next to the dog, which did not look scared at all. A few minutes later, both the dog and the hare climbed into the hole. The woman decided to figure out what was happening and looked into the hole. As it turned out, in addition to the hare, there was a dog and small puppies. From that day on, Victoria began to bring more treats with her so that they would be enough for the whole large family. One day the dog left the hole and never returned. Later, the woman learned that when the dog was trying to get food, she was killed.
The hare took care of all the babies. Victoria helped Ushastik, as she called the unusual ward, with everything she could. The hare quickly got used to the role of the mother, he made sure that the kids did not leave the hole, warmed them and even washed them. Thanks to the hare and Victoria’s help, the kids were able to survive the winter without their mother.
