Wednesday afternoon, I hurried to the market to buy offal for the 15 dogs I care for. At the bus stop, I saw a couple who were eating belyashi with appetite, and a dog was sitting at their feet, which looked at this action with delight. It was understood that the dog was hungry, but the young people were in no hurry to share with her, instead ignoring her, although she was sitting a few centimeters from their legs.
Young people threw half-eaten whites into the trash, just in front of a hungry dog. Realizing that she could not see the treat, the dog lay down on the sidewalk, looking around with sad eyes.
“You have to be so callous,” I voiced my opinion aloud. “Come with me, I’ll buy you something to eat.”
Zlata, that’s what I called the girl, immediately understood what I was saying, jumped up and trotted after me.
When I left the market, Zlata was nowhere to be seen. When I started loading food into the car, she was again nearby, this time I saw her begging for a bun from a woman who was waiting for transport.
The woman behaved in the same way as the couple did a little earlier: she ate a bun, not paying attention to the animal, and when she noticed Zlata, she simply shouted at her to move away.
It is difficult for dogs to survive on the street. Go and beg from people who pretend you don’t exist at all. I went to Zlata and gave her something to eat. Judging by the way she devoured the food, she had been starving for more than a day. Having dealt with the treats, the dog licked my hands and the floor behind me, as if realizing that I could help her.
